Dither
Quantize colour with ordered, random, procedural, or diffusion patterns for print and retro-pixel texture.
Choose a tool
Choose Ordered for a stable matrix, Error Diffusion for distributed quantization error, Random for stochastic dots, Procedural for a shaped threshold field, Modulated Diffuse for woven diffusion, or None for plain quantization. Choose the target palette and dot scale before refining tone.
In this section
Ordered
Use a repeated threshold matrix for stable Bayer-style dots and retro ordered-dither texture.
Error Diffusion
Reduce colours while spreading the lost tones into neighbouring dots for detailed, organic dither patterns.
Random
Reduce colours using random dots for a grainy dither pattern without a repeating grid.
Procedural Dither
Reduce colours through waves, spirals, contours, and noise patterns that can animate with Phase.
Modulated Diffuse
Diffuse error along a directional modulated wave for woven, brushed, and signal-like dither bands.
None
Quantize colour without a visible dither pattern, useful for clean palette reduction.
Use it in the app
Open a project and find Texture & Pattern → Dither in the effects picker. Choose the specific tool, then select its layer in Layers to open the Effect Panel. Related modes may share a mode dropdown at the top of that panel. The pages below explain source requirements, first adjustments and conditional controls for each tool.
