Morphogenesis
Create organic labyrinths, veins, spots, bubbles, and contours with adjustable detail, stretch, and softness.
Add Morphogenesis
Open an image or build the source composition first. Put this effect after the content it should process in stack processing order. Choose Material → Organic → Morphogenesis in the effects picker, or search for Morphogenesis with Cmd/Ctrl + F. Select the new layer in Layers to open its Effect Panel.
Choose the organism
Select Mode and Pattern, then set Spacing and Detail for its structure. Variation changes the arrangement.
Shape the pattern
Adjust Thickness, Stretch, Angle and Bend to steer the forms. Softness changes their edge. Image Pull ties the structure to the source.
Colour and move it
Choose Foreground and Background, then change Cycle to evolve the pattern. Animate Cycle in Video or Live for controlled motion.
Set an individual colour
Click the relevant colour swatch to open its picker. Colors and Palettes explains colour values, transparency and the canvas sampling controls where available.
Compare and finish
Toggle the layer eye to compare with the incoming composition. Use the Effect Panel footer for opacity and blend mode, or add a mask to limit the affected area. In Video or Live, use the function menu on a supported control to add keyframes or a driver.

Show individual controls
| Control | What it does | Values and animation |
|---|---|---|
| Angle | Rotates the long axis of the organic pattern's Stretch, clockwise in canvas coordinates. | -180° to 180° Default: 0° Continuous keyframes |
| Background | Colour of the background regions when Output is Duotone. | Colour Default: #000000 Colour keyframes |
| Bend | Bends the generated organic growth field. | 0% to 100% Default: 25% Continuous keyframes |
| Contour Density | Number of repeated field levels used by Contours; increasing it adds more closely spaced contour bands. | 1 to 8 Default: 3 Continuous keyframes |
| Detail | Adds finer structure to the organic pattern. | 0% to 100% Default: 0% Continuous keyframes |
| Foreground | Colour assigned to the organic foreground in Duotone or used to tint it in Tint output. | Colour Default: #FFFFFF Colour keyframes |
| Invert | Reverses the organic pattern's foreground and background coverage. | On / Off Default: Off Discrete keyframes |
| Mode | Pattern and Duotone fill the canvas. Tint preserves source transparency. | Pattern / Duotone / Tint Default: Pattern Discrete keyframes |
| Pattern | Chooses Labyrinth, Veins, Spots, Bubbles or Contours from the same seeded organic field. | Labyrinth / Veins / Spots / Bubbles / Contours Default: Labyrinth Discrete keyframes |
| Cycle | Moves the stateless organic field through a seamless loop; phases separated by a whole number match. | 0 to 1 Default: 0 Continuous keyframes |
| Variation | Deterministic random seed for generated structure. | 0 to 9999 Default: 7 Discrete keyframes |
| Softness | Softens organic pattern boundaries beyond their antialiasing transition. | 0% to 100% Default: 0% Continuous keyframes |
| Image Pull | Steer the pattern with image brightness. | 0% to 100% Default: 0% Continuous keyframes |
| Spacing | Characteristic wavelength of the organic pattern, in pixels or a percentage of the canvas short edge. | 0.5 to 40 % (typed input: 0.5 to 100); 4 to 512 px (typed input: 4 to 4096) Default: 6.5 % Continuous keyframes |
| Stretch | Elongates the generated organic forms. | 0% to 100% Default: 0% Continuous keyframes |
| Thickness | Controls Labyrinth and spot coverage, and the width of Veins, Bubbles and Contours. | 0% to 100% Default: 45% Continuous keyframes |
