How it works
Frequency Modulation turns source luminance into a carrier field, like an image-driven video or radio signal.
Bright and dark regions push the carrier differently, producing scan-line waves, radial rings, square pixel carriers, or short segment bars. Use it when you want the image to become an oscilloscope, broadcast interference pattern, frequency map, or animated signal texture.
Key controls:
- Line Count and Line Density decide how many carriers appear and whether bright or dark regions cluster the lines.
- Warp Strength controls how strongly source luminance bends the carrier.
- Phase is the clean animation target; animate 0 to 1 for a seamless frequency sweep.
- Broadcast Mode switches between linear scan-lines and radial rings from the centre handle.
- Carrier Shape chooses lines, square pixel stamps, or projected segment bars.
- Color Source, palette, and RGB Chroma Offset control whether colour follows luminance, line mask, scan position, or carrier phase.
Tips: use radial mode for target/radar patterns, turn on mask-to-alpha when the carrier should become a transparent overlay, and use negative Line Density when you want dark regions to pull the signal instead of highlights.
