How it works
3D Augment is a regular effect layer that re-lights the preceding stack output as a shallow 3D material. Place it immediately after the layer you want to augment in processing order.
Auto mode looks only at the immediately preceding enabled layer. These are the exact auto sources:
- Reaction Diffusion — organic relief from the generated cells and veins
- Fusion — organic relief from liquid cellular structures
- Anisotropic Kuwahara — impasto relief from painterly brush regions
- Generative Perlin — terrain mode from smooth procedural noise
- Generative Worley — terrain mode from cellular procedural noise
- Texture Shape Grid — stepped grid relief from generated symbols
- Texture 16-bit Grid — hard low-bit grid relief from generated tiles
- Distortion Flow Field — edge-based relief from flow contours
If the preceding layer is not one of those, Auto uses generic luminance relief. It does not skip over unrelated layers or look inside another stack container to find a better match.
Manual mode works with any visible upstream image. Choose Relief, Glass, Foil, Impasto, or Terrain, then choose the Height Source: Luminance, Alpha, Red, Green, Blue, or Edges. Use Edges when the shape boundaries matter more than the filled tones; it builds a Sobel edge height field before the 3D pass.
Depth controls how high the surface reads, Smooth softens or sharpens the normal response, and Contrast strengthens the height field. Light Angle and Elevation move the virtual key light across the surface.
